Former corporator Datta Sagare (50), an accomplice of suspended Congress corporator Deepak Mankar in the land grabbing case, surrendered before the Crime Branch on Saturday.
Sagare, a resident of Budhwar Peth, was on the run since June 14 after Yeshwant Natu had lodged a complaint against him at Khadak police station. Sagare reportedly told the police that he was in Hubli in Karnataka till now.
Natu had complained that Mankar, Sagare, Sadhana Vartak and builder Sudheer Karnataki masterminded the attack on his house in Shukrawar Peth in February 2008. Natu said he was forced to sell his property to Karnataki for Rs 1.25 crore in 2008. Police had booked Sagare and other accused in the case under Sections 395 (dacoity), 143 and 147 (rioting).
“Sagare surrendered before the Crime Branch around 11.30 am. After completing the routine procedure, we arrested him around 4 pm,” said additional commissioner Prabhat Kumar. He said investigation would be carried out for identifying the goons associated with Sagare who allegedly threatened the Natu family. Police said Sagare was earlier booked in six complaints. Sagare will be produced before the court on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Vishrambaug police interrogated Mankar on Saturday. Police are trying get the details about the revolver that Mankar had used for threatening Shekhar Wambure, former employee of the Urban Co-operative Bank.
