The city police claimed that the search for Mankar was on, but they could not arrest him even as he appeared before the Bombay High Court along with his bunch of supporters on Tuesday. Mankar's lawyer Ashok Mundargi told the court that Mankar had come from Pune.

While most politicians preferred not to be quoted, Shiv Sena legislator Neelam Gorhe came out in the open and said, “It seems the police are hand-in-glove with the land grabbers in the city as the police have been ignoring the cases being filed against the accused and instead harassing the complainants.”

Tackle the Police Mafia first.By: Rajesh Shah | 05-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Sir,That - 'Land mafia thrived while cops were stuck in civil-criminal debate'- is a lame excuse. Land mafia has thrived because of what Dr. Purnima Prabhu has termed as the 'Police Mafia'. Mankars, Bangalis, ... will be created and destroyed and recreated, as long as the Police Mafia exist. There 'business' is always thriving. The law is clear about what a civil matter is and which one is a criminal act. In all the cases presence of the Police is visible, either in ignoring or abetting the property grabbing crimes.Last year, DCP Nagre -Patil of Rural Police had submitted a list of Land grabbers. But instead of taking action on it he was transferred to Mumbai. The Pune CP, Dr. Satapal Singh has a lot of answering to do for promoting the Police and Land Mafia in Pune. We, the citizens of the city are watching.Rajesh Shah.Pune.
