Land scam: Irked Lokayukta hits out at Yeddyurappa

Hegde had said the government should wind up the Lokayukta 'if it has no faith in it'.

Karnataka Lokayukta Santosh Hegde,at loggerheads with the ruling BJP in the state,on Saturday slammed the state government for its alleged “inaction” on various reports submitted by the anti-corruption watchdog.

“I have submitted several reports to the government. But so far no action has been taken on any of them,” Hegde,who is irked by the government’s decision to order a judicial probe into land scams without seeking his prior approval when the issue was already being probed by it,told reporters here.

“I have submitted a report on illegal mining. Government did not act on it. No action was taken against culprits involved in illegal mining,” he said.

Hegde had yesterday objected to the government’s decision to refer land scam allegations against Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his family for a judicial probe when the matter was pending before him and said he would continue with his inquiry.

He had also said the government should wind up the Lokayukta “if it has no faith in it”.

Yeddyurappa had ordered a judicial probe after facing allegations of corruption,nepotism and favouritism from the opposition in allotment of land and denotification.
