Moving closer to ‘annihilating’ the LTTE, Lankan troops captured their last stronghold of Pudukudiriyirippu.

Moving closer to ‘annihilating’ the LTTE, Sri Lankan troops captured their last stronghold of Pudukudiriyirippu and pushed the rebels into a narrow 'no-fire zone' packed with civilians after killing at least 420 Tamil Tigers in heavy fighting in the north.

LTTE supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran, second-in-command Pottu Amman and other senior commanders of the guerrillas are believed to be holed up in the 20 sq-km safety zone, the military said today and accused the rebels of using the tens of thousands civilians as ‘human shields’.

The Army has captured the entire Pudukudiriyirippu area that was under the control of the Tamil Tigers, who have lost many of their key leaders in the latest fighting, military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said. Bodies of 420 rebels killed in intense clashes with advancing troops in the past three days have been recovered from the war zone, he added.

"Prabhakaran is in the 20 sq-km no-fire zone after army captured the remaining one sq-km LTTE area in Pudukudiyirippu.

He will be caught dead or alive. It will be easier to detect him amongst the people because of his heavy size," a top Defence Ministry official told PTI.

Military sources said a number of senior LTTE leaders, including Theepan, Ruben, Nagesh, Gadaphi (a former bodyguard of Prabakaran), Vidusha (head of 'Malathi' female wing), Durga (head of 'Soothiya' female wing) and Kamalini were killed in fighting since last night.

India should treat us as an 'ally': Nadesan

On the verge of defeat at the hands of the Sri Lankan forces, the LTTE appealed to India to treat them as their ‘ally’.

read and understand By: bettina | 07-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward why are we fighting each other? Tamil and Singhalese people lived in harmony for centuries before the British created this political divide. Surely we should be pressing on them to help sort this out instead of taking economic advantage of the situation?if we lived peacefully our country would be one of the richest in the world. Not just economically but politically and morally too.Just as an example Australia has a population of 20 million similar to Sri Lanka.Australia’s GDP is nearly 10 times bigger than that of Sri Lanka.I can hear people shouting that Australian Land mass is many times bigger. Not quite because the amount of irrigable land is only 3 times bigger than Sri Lanka. If we lived in peace ,people like Maha Sivanathan who is the 10th Richest person in Queensland would be contributing to Sri Lanka ,not Australia. Its time we Banged our heads together and decided to progress

LANKA TAMILS WANT DEVOLED POWERS By: M Arun | 06-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Tamils will abandon LTTE and other armed groups only when the Singhalese leaders enact a legislation to devolve powers substantially to administer their areas. This should include the administration of land, local government, economic development, health care, education, social welfare, administration of courts, law and order and police. Defence and foreign policy should be vested at the centre. The events of 1956, 1958, and 1970’s have substantiated with evidence that under the unitary system the Tamils are not safe and crucially the Singhalese leaders will take the covert route to chop the Tamils.
well thats what you think you donout By: bettina | 07-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward yh thats what the sinhalese gov say since 30 years anywais why your saying tamils huh say prabhakaran if you say so that means your against all tamil
Friendship of LTTEBy: Karthik | 06-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Recently, formar LTTE leader Karuna, had said that LTTE had shot dead around 1800 Tamils within their controlled territory just because they were suspected having friendly with IPKF soon after IPKF had been withdrawn. This clearly states that LTTE neither friendly with INDIA ever nor Tamils living in Sri Lanka.Prabhakaran should lay arms and surrender, if he is concerned about well fare of Tamils.
