  • The last few months have been very busy for me, doing shows in Lucknow, Delhi, Amritsar and other cities. Last November, when we were in Amritsar we had an entire day of good food that I’ll never forget. We started the day with a delicious puri bhaji at a small halwai’s called Kanhaiya. Soon after, lunch consisted of galaouti and tangdi kebabs. Amritsar doesn’t have a lot of fashionable restaurants to boast of but their food at ordinary little places is wonderful. What was to come in the evening was a perfect example of this. I was accompanied by my father on the tour and a manager, who found us some great makkhan ki machhi. And I’ll never forget this. It was from a tiny stall-like dhaba. I went into their kitchen and watching them prepare the fish was a feast by itself. It was a river fish, I think it was called singhara and was just delicious. By the end of it our lunch, we were in two minds about having a dinner at all.
