Gandhi slams saffron party’s pro-rich stance, says Congress with ‘aam admi’

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi summed up the party’s campaign in Delhi by launching a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, two days before the Capital goes to polls.

At a public meeting in Seelampur, on the edge of two constituencies with a strong Congress base (Northeast Delhi and East Delhi), Gandhi said BJP was interested in serving the rich by ignoring the poor. “In the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s slogan was ‘India Shining’,” he said. “A slogan in English — a language that more than half the country does not even understand — but they did not ask the farmers or the poor if their India was shining. The BJP only asked the rich and assumed that India was shining.”

Gandhi said the Congress’s attitude was apparent in its own slogan from the last general elections. “Our slogan was ‘Aam Aadmi’, because we trust you and we know that you are responsible for all the progress made in this country over the last five years,” he said to loud applause.

Taking on BJP for criticising him after Gandhi took British Foreign Secretary David Milliband to Amethi in January, he said, “The BJP said, ‘why is Rahul Gandhi displaying India’s poverty to a foreigner’? But even an Englishman understood India’s real power is its people, and the poor will shape its future. The BJP cannot understand this.”

Like all his speeches so far, the Amethi MP again came out strongly in defence of Manmohan Singh. “When the debate over the nuclear deal was threatening to destabilise the government, I went to Dr Singh and he told me that this deal was good for the country; that we should enter it even if it meant the government will fall. How can the BJP call such a man weak?”

    ... contd.

Immature Rahul !!.By: skg | 06-May-2009 Reply | Forward People in India still gets swayed away by Rahul and god knows why they are so many dumb heads in India. People should be judged based on their actions instead of looks. Rahul Maino Gandhi is panicking with the post poll scenario and he is making a mockery of the democracy by inviting Nitish and Naidu . Instead of keeping the UPA alliance together and making it strong, he is trying to break the NDA alliance. Also, people of India should see to that the party which has been hurting the majority people at every moment is not elected back. Jai Hind !!.

The Youth Icon of CongressBy: JSB | 06-May-2009 Reply | Forward Firstly it seems IE is agent of congress or has taken oth before Madame and his babies that they will publish only those items against so called communal BJP. we can not see any news item other than statements of Rahul, Sonia, Sibal etc in relation to elections.Nextly Congress party's pro poor party as held by Rahul is very much correct in the way, for last 50 years it made poor the more poorer and it helped the party workers of congress to control over the poor voters and it made congress party leaders and the MPs MLAs more richer by utilising the public money which they have to use for developemtn.leave aside the development work, Congress never even thought of development. simple example of networking of roads, Pradhan manthri gram sadak yojana brought in by vajepeyee which gave work to millions of poor were stopped in 2004. this shows cong does not want people to work, earn and live happily. they just give unemployment badthis and increase prices by whic poor will starve.
