23 killed in bus-truck collision in Patna

PATNA: At least 23 people were killed and 27 injured when a bus rammed into a speeding truck near Chenaki More,around 30 km from here. While 17 bodies were extricated from the wreckage,six passengers succumbed to injuries on way to hospitals,police said. CM Nitish Kumar announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 50,000 to the next of kin of the dead.

2 Maoists held for Induwar beheading

KHUNTI (JHARKHAND): Two Maoists,who were allegedly involved in the beheading of police inspector Francis Induwar in October last year,were arrested Saturday in Mosanga forests of Khunti district,a police officer said. Santosh Munda alias Mithun,self-styled zonal commander of Bundu/Adki/Tamar areas,and Dipu Lohra were also allegedly involved in the looting of over Rs one crore from ICICI banks van.

Madhuris judicial custody extended

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday extended by 14 days the judicial custody of diplomat Madhuri Gupta,who has been arrested for allegedly passing classified information to Pakistani intelligence officials. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja remanded Gupta,53,to judicial custody till July 9.

Man tries to enter Air Force base,caught

RAMESWARAM (TAMIL NADU): A man from Chhattisgarh,who sneaked into the Uchipuli Air Force base by scaling a fence,was arrested Friday night,police said. The intruder,V Sureshkumar Pari,26,of Ambikapur was nabbed by air base staff and handed over to Lt. Commander Piyush Malik. Nothing incriminating was seized from him.
