16 people on Wednesday were made to stand in the court of District and Sessions Judge 'till the rising of the court', all of whom had been challaned for drunken driving
On the first working day of the Chandigarh district courts on Wednesday, 16 people were made to stand "till the rising of the court" in the court of District and Sessions Judge, all of whom had been challaned for drunken driving.
The licenses of all the persons who were made to stand on Wednesday in the courts had been impounded by the UT traffic police after they were challaned at various nakas in the year 2012.
In the year 2012, 4701 persons were challaned for drunken driving.
In 2011 the number was 4679. Also, the UT Police had put up various nakas for drunken driving on December 31 to keep the celebrations peaceful on New Year's Eve.
88 persons were issued challans by the police for drunken driving on December 31.
Also, many vehicles were impounded by the UT police for those who were in violation of the drunken driving laws.
The sixteen persons have been identified as Harmeet Singh, Jaspreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Shish Pal, Manvir, Mahinder, Nanku, Sarabjit, Deepak, Ashok, Anup, Ravneet, Prince, Naveen, Suhjit and Harjinder.
