Law entrance paper leak: cops say bag tampered with in Delhi

The preliminary investigation into the alleged paper leakage of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT),2009,indicated that the seal of the bag containing question papers was tampered with after the consignment reached the Delhi godown of the courier company.

The Uttar Pradesh STF has initiated a probe into the case and an investigating team has left for Delhi. The Ram Manohar Lohia University,Lucknow,is the nodal agency to conduct the exam here.

Significantly,the investigation revealed that the CCTV cameras installed in the room where the bags containing papers were stored were inoperative.

Deputy Registrar of Ram Manohar Lohia University J D Gangwar said,“We had requested senior government officials to engage STF for an extensive probe,and the agency is now probing the case. The details collected so far reveal that the sabotage was done at the Delhi godown of the courier company.”

Area manager and security officer at the Blue Dart Lucknow godown Narendra Shukla and the cargo supervisor at the Amausi airport,Noorma Rizvi,were interrogated at length by police officers on Thursday morning.

Circle Officer Sarojininagar Rajesh Singh,who was initially probing the case after the registration of the case at the Aashiana police station on Wednesday night,collected details from the security officer at the company’s Delhi godown,Colonel Vijay,in the morning.

Vijay told the Lucknow police that CCTV cameras were installed in all rooms in the godown,but the ones in the particular section where the papers were kept were not working when checked on Wednesday.

Gangwar,however,said the boxes were opened at the company’s Lucknow godown,and locks of the two bags were found broken and the seal of the envelopes tampered with. But no question paper was found missing from the envelopes.

The CLAT examination,meant for entry into undergraduate and postgraduate courses of national-level law universities,was scheduled to be held on May 17. Now,it had been postponed indefinitely,Gangwar said.
