Law graduate held for harassing woman

A 25-year-old law graduate was held on the charge of harassing a senior research analyst by circulating her nude pictures online and calling her incessantly on her cellphone.

Reportedly, a day before his arrest, Ravi Shankar Banerjee threatened to throw acid on the victim's family who had gone to attend a wedding in Jharkhand.

Police said Banerjee was arrested in Jharkhand. He had befriended the victim in her native place and was a regular visitor at her house. However, when she moved to Delhi with her family, although she kept in touch with Banerjee, she wasn't able to talk to him frequently.

Police said Ravi created a fake profile of the victim on on a social networking site and began circulating her pictures and numbers. He allegedly mailed her pictures to her colleagues.

Banerjee, police said, even stalked the victim. When she did not respond to his overtures, Banerjee, police said, ordered sex toys in her name online and had them delivered to her residence.

Following this, the victim approached the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi police where a case was registered against Ravi under 66 A, 66 C and 67 IT Act.

Arun Kumar, SHO of the Telaiya police station in Jharkhand, said, "We have registered a case under Sections 384 (extortion) and 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) of the IPC. Ravi had called the victim's father and threatened to throw acid on them as soon as they arrived in Jharkhand. He asked them to marry their daughter off to him and tried extorting Rs 5 lakh from them. He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days."
