HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Monday told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour that the Government would soon come out with a legislation to regulate the entry of foreign education providers .
Sibal, who was responding to queries made by Chandrakant Khaire of the Shiv Sena and S Semmalai of the AIADMK, said that a law was on the cards to provide for a mechanism to facilitate the entry of reputed foreign universities to improve the quality of higher education. He vowed to prevent the entry of institutions with dubious credentials. "We will not allow our children to be exploited," he declared. He added that another law providing for punishment for those who tried to lure students into unrecognised institutions was also in the offing.
BJP member Maneka Gandhi sought to know if the Government would promote veterinary science, that has till now been neglected. Sibal responded that market forces alone would be the arbiter of that and said that foreign institutions had shown a greater interest in business management and hotel management since there was, clearly, greater demand for them. "Development of skills is at the heart of the education policy," he said while suggesting the process should begin from class ten.
