The policemen were forcibly trying to take an accused to Delhi,says his lawyer
Two Delhi Police personnel were held hostage for almost half an hour by lawyers at the Ghaziabad court premises before they were handed over to the Ghaziabad police. According to the lawyers,they were trying to take a businessman accused in forgery cases forcibly to Delhi.
Jagdish Chand Sharma,a retired judge of the Ghaziabad court and a practising advocate,said his client,Manoj Gupta,who lives in Agra,was accused of forgery by his partner. The two had a property business in Indirapuram.
According to the complainant,Babu Ram Garg,he had paid Gupta Rs 15 lakh for a property purportedly owned by Gupta in Anand Vihar,East Delhi. Later,Gupta denied receiving the money or being the owner of the property.
Two cases were registered against him under sections related to cheating,forgery for the purpose of cheating,using forged documents and forgery of valuable security.
One of the cases has been registered at the Anand Vihar police station, Sharma said. Sub-inspector B L Sharma and constable Arvind Kumar of Delhi Police wanted to take Gupta to the Anand Vihar police station. They were talking to my client,who is out on bail and appeared in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate today. I told them he has come for the hearing and will not go anywhere, Sharma said. But they pulled him down the stairs. I called up other lawyers who stopped the policemen from leaving the court premises.
The policemen were bundled into a ground floor room and the Ghaziabad police was informed.
The Kavi Nagar police detained the Delhi policemen for several hours and released themafter inquiries.
According to sources,they were released only after the intervention of the Delhi Police.
Maintaining that the Delhi Police officers were rescued from the court,but not detained,SP (City) Awdesh Kumar Vijaita said: We were not intimated by the Delhi Police (about their presence in the district).
Senior Delhi Police officers admitted that the Ghaziabad police was not informed.
