According to officials, the display system will give the electronic readings of different polluting substances in the air like the nitrous oxide (NO) level, sulphur oxide and suspended particulate matter. It will help the citizens get information about the pollution level and sensitise them to "take part in measures for prevention of pollution in the city".

The Haryana state pollution control board (HPSCB) is setting up a light emitting electronic display (LED) system at Sector 6 in Panchkula to keep the residents updated about the pollution level in the city.

According to officials, the display system will give the electronic readings of different polluting substances in the air like the nitrous oxide (NO) level, sulphur oxide and suspended particulate matter. Officials said that they are setting up an LED display in the premises of the Haryana state agriculture marketing board.

The officials added that though there is no alarming level of pollution in the city, however the display will help the citizens get information about the pollution level and sensitise them to "take part in measures for prevention of pollution in the city.''

The move is coming after the HSPCB set up four continuous ambivalent air quality monitoring stations in the city of Panchkula, Rohtak, Gurgaon and Faridabad each. These centers are helping the HSPCB generate a continuous data on the pollution level in the city which is also being sent to the central pollution control board (CPCB) for the updation.

The LED display in the city will be connected with the quality monitoring station and updates issued, said a senior official.

The official added, "The level of pollution in the city is not alarming as not many industries have come up here. Unlike Gurgaon where a number of industries have come up, the level of pollution in the city of Panchkula is not significant," said an official.
