With the CPM busy with the extended central committee meeting in Vijaywada, the Left Front MPs on Monday made a feeble attempt to corner the government on its position on Naxal violence,in the wake of Trinamool Congress chief and Railways Minister Mamata Banerjees rally in Lalgarh.

The issue was raised by a clutch of Left MPs as soon as the House assembled. Even as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Bansal pacified them, the members raised the issue again during zero hour and trooped into the well of the House. Speaker Meira Kumar finally allowed one member from the CPM to raise the issue.

Our Prime Minister has made it clear that Naxalism is the biggest challenge to the nation. They have declared war against the nation. They have declared war against the people. In West Bengal,in Lalgarh,a particular political party an ally of the UPA government along with Maoists,is holding a rally while our House is in session here today. This is a tragic incident. The Maoist leaders have made it clear that they are going along with that party. I do not want to name that political party, said CPM member A Sampath.

This was countered by TMC member Sudip Bandyopadhyay, who described Banerjees rally as an attempt to bring peace and harmony in Lalgarh.

Minister of Home Affairs P Chidambaram went to Lalgarh one month back. What is the harm if any Cabinet Minister goes to Lalgarh to send a message of peace and harmony, which is the basic philosophy of Trinamool Congress that there should be no killing,no violence, said Bandyopadhyay.
