  • Legalising gay sex came in for sharp criticism in Rajya Sabha on Friday, with a Samajwadi Party member saying that this will destroy the Indian culture and established tradition and values.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Ram Gopal Yadav said the Delhi High Court ruling legalising gay sex should be challenged by the Centre in the Supreme Court.

"If you do not appeal in the Supreme Court, the old people in the country will have a miserable life," he said.

Concerned over the alleged glamorisation of the issue, Yadav quoted a television channel which coined the usage "Gay ho" in place of "Jai ho".

"Where are you taking the country. If this goes on, our culture will crumble", Yadav said. He was supported by several other members.

Legalising gay sex has implications for other acts like marriage act and succession act, the SP member said.

Freedom is wright for every one. and one one become bad if it is free. when we make rescrition , people use more.Faith in self and gave freedom to all is victory of India in reall democratic sense
Do not legalise Gay cultureBy: A.Dias | 04-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward It is not only shame but disgrace to legalise gay culture. Gays are not criminals but their activities are against the nature, against the religions and against Indian culture. Do our M.P's and M.L.A's want their children to behave like gays? Govt. must appeal the judgement in the Supreme Court and no not accept such dirty activities in India. If the Govt. accepts than also make provision for reservations for gays as the country runs on Reservations only
ResponseBy: J.W | 03-Aug-2009 Reply | Forward A country can't move forward until all people are treated equally. What two people do together is nobody's business but their own. I'm not Indian, I'm Irish. I don't know what the situation is in India but in Ireland 86% of the population agree with gay marriage and we are commended for that. If you want India to join the developed world and become rich then you and your countrymen need to become more tolerant. This is good legislation. Indian people in Ireland are some of the hardest working and most respected members of society, they don't seem to bring this fundamentalism with them. Grow up India.
Bestiality? Let's be realisticBy: Matt | 04-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Gay sex has been legal in many western countries for 40 years (UK, Canada, etc.) and none of them have legalized beastiality or even polygamy.Let's have a rational discussion and not bring up such absurd ideas.Throwing people in jail simply because they are gay is no different than throwing someone in jail because they are Muslim or Hindu.
Culture, homosexuality, beastiality and Ram Gopal YadavBy: Medha | 04-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward People DO NOT turn gay because it is legal. People are born gay. So just because homosexuality is decriminalized, your non-gay son/daughter is not suddenly going to become gay. Stop that silly argument! People do not become blind, handicapped, gay, whatever because it is legal to become so! And the Indian culture can be no more destroyed by gay people than by obscene half-naked Bollywood actresses and naked breasts on ancient sculptures at Khajurao. And 1 billion people cannot be born without sex or sexuality, so get over the idea that Indians are in some way sexually innocent. Finally, you must be completely ignorant about homosexuality to compare it to beastiality. Who told you that any homosexual person crossed the species barrier? Learn to argue with good analogies! Ram Gopal Yadav is right about the Delhi HC decision having an implication on the marriage act and succession act. The courts and the government need to deal with that and find a meaningful solution.
