Graceless, Dada
Sourav Ganguly’s outbursts against some selectors on the eve of his retirement, seem to be in bad taste. For more than a decade he was given many opportunities by the selectors, That was not just because of his periodic excellent performances but chiefly because of the able support his team-mates extended to him, as records will show. If sports lovers applauded him for his blazing performances, they also reserve the right to comment on his below average results. He should have gracefully retired when his form was at its peak, so that he would have been fondly enshrined in cricket-lovers’ hearts. This, sadly, is a graceless exit by a world-class cricketer!

On Chiranjeevi
This is with reference to your editorial ‘Babu’s gamble’. Coming as I do from the coastal district of west Godavari, what I see is that Chandrababu Naidu’s “enormous gamble” is because of a large exodus from his party’s ranks, due to his autocratic conduct. Leaders of different parties in Andhra Pradesh have not exactly bothered to give importance to the aspirations of the people. One hopes that Chiranjeevi will conduct his campaign with care.
