Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging him to take steps so that the land attached to closed central public sector undertakings (PSUs) are released and used for industrial purposes.
The CM had discussed the issue with the prime minister a few years ago. “During a recent review of the position of such idle lands in sick central public sector undertakings in the state it appeared that in the cases of most of the sick central sector undertakings there has been hardly any development towards early disposal of the cases and unlocking of the land for industrial purpose... I am sure that both the Centre and state government share the view that these lands are basically industrial lands and should be released for industrial uses,” the letter said.
Some of the CPSUs which have been closed for years include Cycle Corporation of India, Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation an, five factories of National Jute Mills Corporation, Manindra Cotton Mill, Bengal Opthalmic, to name a few.
