Landing in trouble
This is regarding the story "GoM okays land Bill with industry-friendly features" (FE, October 17), notwithstanding the thickening clouds of scandal around land deals. Especially since the allegations of the DLF-Vadra-Haryana government deal are under scrutiny. The IAS officer Ashok Khemka has opened a series of investigations into the transfer of Panchayat-held land to private individuals and companies, subsequently sold for windfall gains. Though the Haryana government has refuted all allegations, there is a need for reforms in the realty sector so that any such irregularities can be prevented. Why not make the Bill comprehensive to include guidelines or laws to cover this 'out of the box' aspect of selling or purchasing of land, etc, by corporations and private individuals?
