  • The World Environment Day got a special candle-lit dinner rolling

It's a sight more often than not associated with Valentine's Day-dim lights, soft music, cosy talk and a candle glowing on your table! While romance was definitely not in the air at Chandigarh Taj earlier on Friday evening, the mood sure was mellow with the hotel doing its bit towards conserving energy as part of World Environment Day celebrations. As the clock struck eight in the evening, the lights in most parts of the hotel were either switched off or reduced to the minimum. Instead, the hotel was lit up with candles as and where needed. "World Environment Day is an internationally acclaimed event and it has inspired us at Taj Chandigarh to celebrate the spirit and the cause with our patrons," remarked the hotel's general manager Anil Malhotra as guests walked in, pleasantly surprised to see the warm glow.

Interestingly, the hotel rolled out a five day long line-up of events to mark the World Environment Day celebrations. "Our campaign was called 'Go Green' and that saw us present green paper globes to all guests who will visited the hotel on June 1 and 2," Eitika Garg, assistant manager (PR) further informed. The globe entitled the recipient to a one-time 20 percent discount on the spa and all Food and Beverage outlets of the hotel. Further to invoke concern for the environment amongst junior citizens, a poster making competition was organized in the hotel on the theme 'The colours of our planet earth'. That done with, the hotel organised a walkathon for guests and staff to communicate the theme and the message of World Environment Day on June 4. The grand finale was the 'Candle in the Wind' themed dinner that brought in overwhelming response. "It's a nice gesture and I am sure all that energy saved with the lights off will make some difference," remarked a guest dining at the hotel's Café 17 where a special Moroccan buffet was laid out. To end the celebrations on a green note, the hotel staff even handed out free plant saplings to the guests.
