The liquor dens in the rural areas of Ahmedabad operate from Valsad through a network of three men in Gujarat, according to the Ahmedabad rural police.
This was found after the arrest of two persons and seizure of a truck from the Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway last week.
The duo was going to collect liquor from warehouses in the rural areas and supply it in Ahmedabad.
The police said the two, identified as Manoj Ditosa (32) and Arvind Yadav (30), are residents of Chital village in Amreli and Daman respectively, while the kingpin is based in Valsad.
Sandip Singh, the Superintendent of Police (Rural), told Newsline: “Their modus operandi included changing number plates of mini trucks that they used in every transaction.”
“They used a special mini truck, which was re-designed in a way that it looked empty from front and rear,” he added.
Singh added that a passage was made behind driver’s seat that led to an artificial storage for liquor.
“The truck used to easily pass from all the check points with this kind of design,” he said. The same truck was caught during the raid on the expressway that was used to supply liquor in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Sabarkantha and other areas.
The police said the duo supplied trunks of liquor in rural Ahmedabad and neighbouring cities on order.
While Yadav, who originally belongs to Bihar, was working with the main accused for the last 15 years, Ditosa looked after liquor supply in Saurashtra.
