It seems to be spring for retired bureaucrats and two newly-appointed interlocutors are not the only ones enjoying it. The powerful Law Secretary, T K Viswanathan, looks all set to add to the growing list of retired bureaucrats finding re-employment with the government. Viswanathan, who retired on Saturday after a long stint, is tipped to be appointed as an advisor to the Law Minister, a post that incidentally was created just last week — some say with the sole objective of accommodating him. This had to be done because Viswanathan lost out to another seasoned babu in the race for the post of the Lok Sabha secretary general. Incumbent P D T Achary, who has been in the post for more than four years now, is learnt to have convinced Speaker Meira Kumar for a third extension. This apparently left many powerful Congress leaders red-faced as they had promised Viswanathan the needful. Result: An alternative was created.
