There is little hope for India-Pakistan dialogue, for now, Pakistani and Indian analysts said.

Ties between bitter rivals India and Pakistan will not improve while the cloud of last November's militant assault on Mumbai hangs over their interactions, Pakistani and Indian analysts said on Monday.

India was using the Mumbai attack to pile pressure on Pakistan and distract attention from the issues that have soured relations for decades, a Pakistani analyst said.

An Indian analyst said India had yet to see a strategic shift in Pakistan's dealing with the terrorists who carried out the Mumbai attack, and public anger over Mumbai would prevent any early resumption of their nearly five-year-old peace process.

The Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers met in New York on Sunday with Pakistan signaling its desire to mend fences with a hesitant India, but the ministers stopped short of announcing a resumption of full-fledged peace negotiations.

"India is using this time to bring Pakistan under the maximum pressure that it can on the question of terrorism," said Shamshad Ahmed Khan, a former Pakistani foreign secretary.

Pakistan has acknowledged that the coordinated attacks on Mumbai in which 166 people were killed were plotted and partly launched from its soil. It is prosecuting seven suspects in a closed-door hearing that resumes on Oct. 3.

India, however, is pressing Pakistan to prosecute Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, the founder of the Lashkar-e-Taiba group India says was behind the Mumbai attack.

Saeed was detained in Pakistan in December, after a UN Security Council resolution put him on a list of people and organisations supporting al Qaeda.

There is no alternative to dialogue By: antabakht | 29-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward "little hope for dialogue with Pakistan now" is another way of saying that we do not want to discuss Kashmir right now. There is no alternative to dialogue and negotiations. Why not India plan a 26/11 attack on Pakistan and kill about the same number of civilians and then go for a dialogue, if we want to go for dialogue on equal footing. Is it what many readers desire? There are terrorists in Pakistan, but the Govt can not be described as a terrorist State, there are terrorists in India, Naxalites, supporters of LTTE and a few other fanatical religion based ones. Until americans get out of Pakistan and Afghanistan, it is going to be impossible to distinguish between real terrorism and real freedom fight. It is the Americans who try to fish out of troubled waters they try hard to divide India and Pakistan as they have successfully divided Shiahs and Sunnies in Iraq and the pashtuns and tajiks in Afghnaistan. Indian foreign policy is slippery right now.We need more positive thinking
Don't negotiate; attack.By: Arindam | 04-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward There's no need to negotiate with a terrorist state. Instead, it would be far better if India mobilized its armed forces and struck Pakistan in the winter. The Pakis are already fighting a civil war on one front; they are in no position to fight India. An Indian invasion and conquest of Eastern Pakistan, (we can let Balochistan go independent and Pashtunistan go to Afghanistan) would solve the Kashmir, terrorism and numerous other problems. But it requires a nationalist government first... which is currently lacking.
pakistan ZINDA BADBy: MASOOD | 01-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward JUST DREAM IT, INDIA CAN NEVER , NEVER ATTACK ON PAKISTAN, ITS EASY TO COMMENT BUT ASK UR ARMY UR GOV, U CAN NEVER EVER ATTACK ON PAKISTAN ON NEXT 1000 YEARS, ITS NOT BOLY WOOD MOVIE, ITS PAKISTN, WE KNOW HOW TO DEFEND OUR COUNTRY, WE KNOW HOW TO DEFEND OUR NATION, WE KNOW HOW TO DEFEND OUT FREEDOM, U GOT WRONG IDEA MAN, WE WILL EAT EM ALIVE IF SOME ONE EVER LOOK IN THE PAKISTAN AND YHINK ABOUT ATTACKING US, WE WILL MAKE THEM DISAPEAR IF SOME ONE EVER TRY TO CROSS OUR BORDERS , WE ARE FIFGTEING AGAINT TERRORISM ,EXTREEMISM, AND WE KNOW HOW TO FIGHT WITH OUR ENEMIES ,DONT PUSH TO US, WE WANT PEACE, BUT WE CAN FIFGT TILL THE DEATH , DEATH TILL THE END OF BOTH US SO NEVER EVER THINK TO INTERFERE IN OUR COUNTRY, OR CHALANGE OUT DIGNITY, OUR HONOR, ITS LOOK LIKE U HAVE A WEEK AND SICK MIND, U HAVE PAKISTAN FOBIA, ITS MEAN U ALL ARE AFRAID OF PAKISTANIES ,US, SO JUST COOL DOWN, WE NEVER SAID WE WILL ATTACK INDIA, BUT WE KNOW HOW TO DEFEND OUR SELF SO DONT PUSH IT UP....
the other side of the pictureBy: Sahir khan | 02-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Analysist from both the countries have some solid background. Why we just forget that both the Countries Pakistan and India are not enjoying friendship. A hero of a nation is always willon for the enemy nation. Pakistan's Courts has decleard Hafiz M. Saeed not Guilty for Mumbai attacks. The Prooves or Informations given by Indian authorities can be present to hang all the Pakistan's armed forces and public who feels that kashmir is the main issue of tension inbetween the two nation.Mumbai attacks regarding to the Pakistani prospective is just rooted with the issue of indian Kashmir. US and rest of the world do understand that Lashker e Tiyaba and Jaish e Muhammad have no link with al Qaida or Taliban of afghanistan or either with the Taliban of Pakistan. It can be witnessed easily on the streets of Pakistan, when people observed that Taliban and Alqaida are mostly Arabic and pashto speaking people while lashker e taiyaba or jaishe muhammad are mostly urdu and panjabi speeking people.
India sends right messageBy: Sharam | 29-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward The serious and glib talking Pak FM hasn't managed to soothe Indian fears of a dishonest Pak. Bilateral relations have not taken off because of Pak's double talk and lack of determination to do their part. While the FM talks of action, the Interior Min keeps refuting Indian inputs and dossiers with the fake argument that India has not provided evidence. It was left to Chidu to clarify that "the evidence is on Pak soil. India can only provide information. Pak must investigate and unearth the evidence."Moreover, the adverse conditions on our borders with increasing infiltration attempts, cross-border firing, and general tension along the border does not bode well for bilateral relations to resume any time soon. Such an impasse is good considering that someone needs to ensure that Pak shows tangible actions in its fight against terrorism. The US and India must co-operate to ensure that the pressure on Pakistan is consistent and yields results. Results should drive forward relations.
Be watchfulBy: Hero Vaz | 29-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward That is how it should be to put sense into the Pakis. There is a possibilty that Pak will step up its terrorism to retaliate and force India into talks. India should be prepared for that and give a fitting reply, if it happens. Apart from using force, India should cut all links with the Pakis, including diplomatic relations. Softness and decency will not pay. The Pakis don't understand such things.
