Local bodies beat MoUs target

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has signed 159 memorandums of understanding with various parties during the two-day long summit.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has signed 159 memorandums of understanding with various parties during the two-day long summit,entailing an investment of Rs 27,355 crore with job opportunities to more than 43,000 persons,an AMC release on Thursday said.

All but one MoU,that of Essel World,were signed on the first day of the summit. The highest number of MoUs were signed for residential,commercial and malls put together,promising an investment of Rs 15,019.50 crore with jobs to over 27,000 persons. This was followed by investment promise of Rs 4,675 crore for water supply and treatment facilities through 11 MoUs,with a potential of around 4,000 jobs.

Fifteen hotel projects coming to city will entail investment of Rs 3,391 crore generating 6000-plus jobs. Power generation and solid waste management projects attracted an investment of Rs 3,160 crore that could employ 2,500 persons. The release said Essel World of Subhashchandra Goyal will invest Rs 200 crore in a floating restaurant on the Sabarmati Riverfront. Another eight MoUs for setting up miscellaneous projects have an investment promise of Rs 200 crore,the release said.

Sources in AMC said against a target of Rs 20,000 crore worth of investments given to the civic body,it exceeded the target on the very first day itself.

Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA) signed 126 MoUs worth Rs 25,000 crore for different projects on Thursday.

Sources said SMC was given a target of Rs 7,000 crore,but had managed 103 MoUs worth Rs 17,400 crore in sectors like housing,commercial and infrastructure. The SUDA also signed 23 MoUs worth another Rs 7,600 crore.

All municipal corporations and other local bodies together have signed MoUs worth a total Rs 2,26,274 crore,it was learnt.
