Green Grove Public School celebrated the festival of Lohri while Guru Gobind Singh Public School celebrated “Dhian di Lohri” on Tuesday Students arrived in traditional dresses. The girls danced to the tune of Punjabi song, “Charkha mera rangla.” Malwai Giddha was also performed on this occasion by the students of classes VII and VIII. Children enjoyed bone-fire and sang folk song, “sunder munderye” along with dhol. Students also enjoyed peanuts, rewaris and gachak, which were distributed on the occasion.

Manjit Kaur, the school principal, wished ‘Happy Lohri’ to all and explained to the students the importance of Lohri and Dullah Bhatti

The festival was also celebrated at Green Grove Public School, Mohanpur with enthusiasm. The celebrations started with the lighting up of the bonfire by S George, principal of the school, who was accompanied by the students and the staff members.

Students danced on the tunes of Punjabi songs as revelers munched on peanuts, sweets and popcorns. In the end, certificates were given to the winners of the inter-house solo song competition. JPS Jolly, the school president, appreciated the performance put up by the students.

At USPC Jain Public School, Chandigarh Road, the celebrations — marked by fun frolic — were presided over by Pratima Jain. Kite flying competition was the main attraction at the competition. Both boys and girls from nursery to class XII enjoyed the competition.

In class VIII, Gurkirat Singh stood first, Robin second and Rajneesh third, in Class VII Simran, Abhishek and Parampreet got first, second and third prizes, respectively. In Class VI, Sukhdeep, Rupinder and Yatin won first, second and third prizes. Special prize winners were all girls with Himantika of VIII bagging the first prize, Karanveer of VI second and Himanshi and Varsha the third prize.Peanuts and rewaris were distributed among students.
