Lok Nayak Hospital is getting ready for an ‘intense beautification’ drive, with a new façade, a green zone and the road leading to the hospital free of garbage dumps, toilet complexes, vendors and rickshaw pullers. If the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is to be believed, in a year’s time, the road outside the hospital will be the same as Rajpath or Janpath.
Briefing delegates from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), MCD and health authorities said the entire stretch from Rajghat to Ajmeri Gate will be beautified. “The road outside LN Hospital will be a no-parking zone. We will move the vendors to the back of the hospital. The décor of the hospital will be in sync with the administrative building - which is an archaeological site,” an MCD official who attended the meeting said.
During their last visit, the delegates had expressed unhappiness over the construction work and chaos outside the hospital.
Medical Superintendent, Lok Nayak Hospital, Dr Amit Banerjee said the civic agency and the hospital was working in tandem. “We have regular meetings with the MCD and are working hand in hand,” Dr Banerjee said.
On Thursday, Health Minister Kiran Walia apprised CGF medical advisors Dr Jagdisan and Dr Manmohan of various initiatives taken by the government to upgrade health facilities in the city.
GB Pant hospital, RML Hospital and the AIIMS Trauma Centre have been identified to provide dedicated healthcare services during the Games. Each of these hospitals will have separate wards, emergency areas and ICU beds for athletes and officials.
