The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued a lookout circular against Baba Ramdevs aide Acharya Balakrishna on Monday and is in the process of revoking his passport. The agency suspects that Balakrishna might try to flee the country as it investigates a case against him for procuring passport on a fake degree certificate.
Sources said they would write to the Ministry of External Affairs, seeking information on Balakrishnas passport. We have also contacted the regional passport office to revoke the passport, said a CBI official. The moves comes a day after the agency registered a case against him under Section 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC for procuring a fake degree and violation of Section 12 of the Indian Passport Act (knowingly furnishing false documents for getting passport).
Alerts have been sounded at airports, ports, major bus depots and border check points, especially around the Indo-Nepal borders,as Balakrishna is learnt to be of Nepalese origin. The CBI had started investigations into his citizenship after claims of him enjoying dual citizenship came to light.
The probe was handed over to the CBI two months ago after which a preliminary inquiry was initiated.
Officials said the Registrar of Sampurna Nand Sanskrit University, which issued the degrees, had informed them that the enrolment numbers mentioned in the fudged documents belonged to a different student.
Balakrishnas two degrees,Purv Madhyma,a high school degree issued in 1991,and Shastri,a Sanskrit degree in 1996,dont figure in the universitys records, according to a official part of the probe.
Refuting the allegations against Balakrishna as baseless,Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust spokesperson S K Tijarawala said: It is a design to malign those close to Baba Ramdev. Balakrishnas passport is valid. He got it about 12-13 years ago. This is being done to pressurise us to give up the demand on black money. But we will fight against it.
