Getting lost in conversation over the phone – unmindful of the surroundings – can be dangerous; and Dalsukh Gohil, a resident of Bharthana village on the outskirts of Surat, learnt it at the cost of his right arm.
Gohil (42), a diamond polisher in Priyanka Gems, alighted from a train near the Surat railway station and started talking on the phone while walking on the tracks, unmindful of an oncoming train. The collision threw him off the tracks but crushed the bones of his right arm. He was rushed to the SMIMER Hospital where doctors amputated his arm.
Gohil said: “I have done a great mistake and I am requesting that people shouldn’t walk when they talk. People generally get engrossed in the conversation and fail to see the things happening in their surroundings, which lead to accidents.”
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) B M Chauhan said: “It is dangerous to talk while driving and we have penalised several people for the same. We even explain them not to talk while driving.”
