Love and Longing

The unusual love story of writer-poet Amrita Pritam and artist Imroz will be staged in Mumbai next week. Ahmedabad-based Abhinay Banker of Acktor’s Theatre brings to the city Main Tenu Phir Milangi — A Divine Love Story. For Banker,it was the fact that Pritam’s life was full of twists and turns,that inspired him to direct this play. “Their story shows love from a very different perspective. We still restrict ourselves from expressing our true feelings due to social barriers,but Amrita and Imroz were ahead of their time and did what was acceptable to them,without crumbling to social pressure even in the ‘50s and ‘60s,” The play,which will be performed on April 16 at NCPA,Mumbai,focuses on Pritam’s life with Imroz. He entered her life at the age of 40 and they were together till she died in 2005.
