LTTE must surrender and face realities: Rajapaksa

President Mahinda Rajapaksa asked the Tamil Tiger rebels to surrender and face the realities.

As the Sri Lankan troops prepare for a “final show down” with the LTTE,President Mahinda Rajapaksa today asked the Tamil Tiger rebels to surrender and face the realities, saying the time for “myths are all over”.

“Government troops have almost overran the last bastions of the LTTE in the North and the stage is set for the final show down,” Rajapaksa said at a public function at Kandy.

Asking the LTTE to lay down arms and surrender,Rajapaksa said it was time for the rebels to face the realities in the wake of most of its areas being captured by the security forces.

“For the LTTE,myths are all over. It’s time for them to face realities. Sri Lankans or the world communities at large are not dumb, blind of deaf to facts. They are aware of the fact that there is no more LTTE potential to come back, but to flee in fright,” Rajapaksa told his supporters in the city,115 kms North East of the capital.

More than 3,000 civilians crossed the frontlines to the government-designated safe zones as troops captured the personal security headquarters of Tiger supremo V Prabhakaran at Visuamadukulam in the island’s north today in their final push against the beleaguered LTTE.

Underlining that the last Sea Tiger base at Challai in coastal north has already fallen to the army, the President said the LTTE should adhere to the advice of the global community to lay down weapons.

“It’s high time for them (the LTTE) to lay down arms and surrender. If they hope to escape out, they would have known better. The last Sea Tiger base,Challai, had already fallen. It’s much wiser for them to comply with the request of the Tokyo Co-Chairs”,he stressed.
