More than 21 years after the assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, officers of the CBI and Indian intelligence agencies recently visited Sri Lanka and questioned former LTTE leader Selvarasa Pathmanathan,alias KP,in connection with his suspected role in the crime. The CBI,as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Monitoring Agency (MDMA),is probing the larger conspiracy in the case and was allowed to question KP for two days. The LTTEs former financier and chief arms procurer was nabbed in Malaysia and brought to Sri Lanka in 2009. He was in detention until October 17. KP apparently told the team about the planning behind Rajivs killing,sources said. But he denied knowledge about the source of funds discovered by the CBI in the case and said he was shuttling between Sri Lanka and Malaysia at that time. The MDMA,however,suspects KP played a key role in the assassination and was aware of the entire conspiracy. The officers have sought more information from Malaysia and Sri Lanka after questioning KP. MDMA officials said KP now runs the North East Rehabilitation and Development Organisation,which works for Tamils in Sri Lanka.
