The Lucknow University (LU) today issued notification for the Student Union elections. Earlier, the district administration had given its nod to the proposed dates.
The nomination will take place on October 6 while voting will be held on October 15 and results will be declared on October 17 for a total of 35 posts, according to the notification issued by Prof Narendra Kumar Pandey, Returning Officer for the elections.
Earlier, the district administration had conveyed its agreement for the proposed dates, and on Monday evening, the DM gave the final go ahead, Pandey said. The distribution of applications — which are free and also available on the university website — for obtaining nomination papers would begin from September 26 and would go on till October 1.
Upon successful filing of applications, the candidates can obtain nomination papers, for Rs 50, from September 28 to October 1. Between October 3 and October 5, the candidates will have to submit a security deposit — which is Rs 1,000 for presidential candidates and Rs 500 for all others. The nomination papers, filed on October 6, would be evaluated on October 8 and a final list of eligible candidates would be displayed the same day. Identity cards to the candidates and their agents (deployed during polling and counting of votes) would be issued on October 10. The candidates can begin campaigning on October 6.
This is the first time the university would be observing Lyngdoh committee recommendations.
"To check fraudulent cases, photographs would be listed alongside the names in the voters list, kept at each of the booths, to match them with the ID cards of the students," Pandey said. The first voters list would be displayed on September 28. The voters can raise their objections on September 29, and on October 1, a final list would be issued.
