After it was found that the alleged LeT operative Mohammad Aslam was a student of Lucknow University, the authorities on Thursday decided to keep a strict vigil on outstation students.

“We have asked for the records of the students who have come from other states. We are planning to check their identity as well as keep an eye on their movement,” said Proctor A N Singh, after the authorities held a meeting.

On Wednesday, a team of ATS investigated university records and found him Aslam had completed his post-graduation from LU in the 2003-05 session.

Though Aslam’s identity card was found in the university records, his photograph was missing from the records. This led the team to retrieve any of his examination forms, but to no avail.

“His examination forms are also missing and no record was found on Thursday pertaining to his identity,” said Singh.

Regarding the missing photograph, Vice-Chancellor U N Dwivedi said: “Definitely there has been some lapse on the part of the university but since the case is six years old, most of the DTP centre officials, who were in-charge of maintaining the records, have retired. We are trying to investigate the matter.” “We are also ready to provide the students’ records to the district administration, if it is demanded,” said Dwivedi.

According to sources, due to the investigation, students of Arab culture kept away from the classes on Thursday. The head of department of

Arabic, Professor K K Rastogi, however, said it had nothing to do with the probe. “It was certainly not because of ATS probe but Ramzan due to which less students came for their classes. Though less than 50 per cent of the students were present, classes were held,” he said.
