His wife and daughter later died at the trauma centre of King George Medical University, while the officer and his son were critical and undergoing treatment.
The incident took place at 8 am, when 55-year-old Surendra Singh, a deputy manager with the PNB's Aliganj branch, shot at his wife Aruna (50) and daughter Niharika (27), who were sleeping in the same bedroom from point blank range at their ears, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Trans-Gomti) Ram Bahadur Yadav.
Next, he went inside his 24-year-old son Nishant's bedroom and also shot him at his ear from point blank range. Finally, Singh came out in the drawing room and shot himself in the head, Yadav said.
Nishant, who was conscious, called up his uncle Neeraj Singh, who also lives in Vikas Nagar, for help. Neeraj arrived and called up the ambulance which carried all the four injured to the Trauma Centre, where Aruna was declared brought dead. Niharika too succumbed soon. Singh and Nishant are critical.
At first, the neighbours ignored the sound of firing. It was only after the arrival of police and ambulance that they came to know what had happened inside Singh's two-floor house, mentioned as Agricos' Home on the name plate.
Singh's neighbour Mukesh Jain said Singh's family had been living there for more than 20 years and "they were a good neighbour".
"Singh was suffering from depression as his wife used to have epilepsy fits and his daughter was also not mentally sound. We had a good relationship as he had worked with me at PNB for some time. But we never thought he could do something like this," said a shocked neighbour.
Singh's brother-in-law K Singh, who reached the spot, saw all four family members lying in pools of blood. "One could not look at them. We just covered them with clothes and carried them to the ambulance," he said.
He said Niharika had studied till Class XII only, while Nishant had completed his B Tech from Pune and was currently preparing for his MBA entrance examination. He said Singh had obtained a gun license as he was working with a bank and often supervised transfer of cash. Besides his depression, there seems no other reason for his doing such a thing, he added.
Yadav said that preliminary investigation had revealed that Singh was undergoing treatment for depression for the last 7 to 8 years and his wife was also suffering from depression. He said prima facie these personal tensions seems to be the trigger for the incident.
Assistant General Manager at Aliganj branch of PNB A K Varmani said Singh was on leave for the last 10 days as he was not well and was expected to join office on Monday. He said he did not notice anything unusual in his behaviour and he worked like a normal employee.
Police have lodged an FIR against Singh under IPC 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 309 (attempt to suicide) on the complaint of Neeraj who said that his nephew had informed him that Singh shot his wife, daughter and son.
