Two youths were attacked when a group was staging a protest after placing the body of the victim at the Chowk crossing in the afternoon. District Magistrate Anurag Yadav and SSP RK Chaturvedi were present at the spot when the youths were attacked. Both are out of danger.
A youth who got shot and injured in Wednesday night's firing was battling for life. His father Ashok Yadav said the doctors had not allowed the family to see his son.
On Wednesday night's incident, Additional DGP Arun Kumar said power supply was snapped in the locality where a group fired at members of a sect holding a religious gathering. This appeared to be a planned attack and an inquiry has been ordered.
In the morning, groups of two sects indulged in brick-batting and exchanged fire in Satkhanda when members of one sect gathered to protest against Wednesday's incident. A police force was sent which dispersed the troublemakers.
In the afternoon, a crowd carried the body of the victim of last night's firing and placed it at the Chowk. While the DM and the SSP were trying to pacify them, someone spotted two passing youths of another sect and attacked them with sharp-edged weapons.
The police registered a case of murder and three of attempt to murder against 15 persons, including former BSP MP Dawood Ahmad and his relatives.
Police said primary investigation has revealed that Dawood's relatives indulged in firing to settle scores with some members of another sect. The ex-MP and his relatives are in property business and they were trying to purchase an old building at a prime location in Wazirganj area but were facing hurdles from some members of another sect.
