Ludhiana Cares launches woman safety campaign: ‘Seeti bajake bol bhaiyya...’

'This whistle blown in a particular pattern would attract the attention of all'

In a unique woman safety campaign launched by Ludhiana Cares, a social platform created by all NGOs and socialites of city, seeti (whistle) was introduced as a self-defence tool for women during a meeting held at BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School on Monday.

Mona Lall, associate director, International Institute of Fashion Design, came up with an innovative and harmless safety device which could be used by all girls and women at all times and all places. She suggested the use of a seeti (whistle) to be carried by all women at all the times.

"This whistle blown in a particular pattern would attract the attention of all. Whether going out for tuitions in the early morning or late evening, walking in parks, stranded in a deserted street, or waiting for conveyance at night — women anywhere and everywhere can use this harmless device. Pepper sprays and stun guns are expensive and also not reliable in all cases. However, this seeti could be used anywhere at any time," said Mona.

Ludhiana Cares released the posters of SEETI CARES on the occasion. Ludhiana Cares proposes to circulate these posters and use other promotional means in the city to make women aware of this tool along with other helpline numbers of Ludhiana Police.

Manmeet Sodhia, director, Ivanna Institute, put forth a proposal for special self-defence training to at least two physical education teachers of schools from the Ludhiana Police.

BCM Arya School principal Paramjit Kaur said that their counsellors would design seminars for the students of their schools on topics such as adolescence, safety and sex education.

Sat Pal Mittal principal Bupinder Gogia, KVM principal Navita Puri, GNPS principal Mona Singh and GNIPS principal Gurmant Gill also shared their experiences.
