On the eve of Krishan Janamasthami, the city seems to have been gripped by religious fervour. From the city temples to flowers shops, everything is fascinating the devotees.
The temples’ committees have planned the festival in their own style and are busy in decking up the temples while making security arrangements at the same time.
At Govind Godham, Hambran Road, the main attraction will be decoration of original flowers and attractive dress of Lord Krishna. According to SD Dhamija, founder chairman of Govind Goidham, “We have arranged fresh flowers of different varieties from Calcutta of worth Rs 2.50 lakh. Interestingly, the payment for these flowers has been made by one of our devotees.”
While another devotee has arranged a special dress of Lord Krishna from Vrindavan, which cost Rs 1 lakh. “It is total zari, pearls and beautiful glittering stones. This will fascinate everyone tomorrow,” gushed a member of the committee while describing this dress. At midnight, all the devotees will be given earthen lamps for offering prayers.
Special aartis will be offered at five different places in the temple. In each group, there will be 40 earthen lamps. The temple has installed its CCTVs at different places to keep a strict vigil on the visitors. The temple has beefed up its security by deploying 100 personnel of private security. While 50 Punjab Police personnel under the supervision of a DSP will oversee the overall security around the temple.
A special “bhog” comprising 256 items will be displayed first and then distributed to the devotees. The workers of the temple will keep serving the devotees with free drinking water while waiting in long queues.
