The city has a plethora of music bands playing in weddings or other occasions. But when it comes to creative leanings, there is hardly a name to reckon with.
But a city girl who had created a record of sorts by topping all through her graduation years and then shooting into limelight when she won an award for her finesse in playing the dhol in Panjab University’s youth festival has now set up a music band called The Original.
Kirandeep Kaur, who wants to stand out in the music circle, says her band will be a cut above the rest in the country. She finds an echo from her other members of the band: Chetan, an MBA student at Jalandhar and Vishal Bahl, a self-employed professional dealing in insurance.
“Apart from a couple of musicenthusiasts, there are hardly any bands in the country we can really look up to. There is very less of original work being done. We want to captalise on the originality of our music,” says Vishal, coordinating his rhythm with Kiran and Chetan.
“That is what struck us at first, and we decided to form a band,” says Kiran who gives lessons in various music instruments at her home. Chetan and Vishal were her students initially but “when we found there was a kind of magic happening whenever we were together with each other’s coordination at its best, we got together and launched this band.”
The trio has decided to make a formal announcement of the band at a live show which is scheduled for next month in the city. “We have also composed eight songs for our first album,” says Chetan.
