Ludhiana under curfew for third day,remains peaceful

Following imposition of curfew,Ludhiana remained closed for the third day today. The overall situation remained peaceful with no incidents of violence or protests.

Following imposition of curfew,Ludhiana remained closed for the third day today. The overall situation remained peaceful with no incidents of violence or protests. Sikh protestors blocked the Ludhiana-Moga road for a few hours in the morning but no other incidents were reported.

The Central Reserve Police Force was called in last night as reinforcement for the Punjab Police personnel who have been on alert since Friday.

There was unrest in Ludhiana after a clash broke out between the police and the migrant labourers on Friday. This was followed by another clash on Saturday between the police and radical Sikhs who were on their way to disrupt the religious meeting of Ashutosh Maharaj.

Meanwhile,condition of Gurpreet Singh,28-year-old resident of Habib Ganj,is still critical as he has received multiple injuries. Gurpreet was among the nine people who were admitted to the Christian Medical College and Hospital after the police opened fire on Saturday.

With peace returning in certain parts,curfew was relaxed for three hours in the evening today in areas including Division number 5,Sarabha Nagar and Model Town. IG,Jalandhar Zone,Sanjeev said,” Since no the situation was peaceful today,the decision about curfew tomorrow will be taken by the police late at night.”
