The machines installed at the Solid Waste Management Plant in Dadumajra are not those as were demonstrated by the Germany firm from whom they were bought. There are some machines that were not part of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The sub-committee constituted to look into the functioning of the plant has pointed out these and numerous other anomalies at the plant.
The sub-committee is headed by councillor Chander Mukhi Sharma and includes former mayor Surinder Singh and councillor Lalit Joshi who were part of the team that went to Germany to inspect the plant.
In a meeting on January 31,it was pointed out that although the primary and secondary shredders are of Doppstadt Company, all other material is made in India.
During the meeting,Brig R S Sahota, president of Jai Prakash Associates, said the components of the garbage in Germany is different from that in India and thus different machines were required.
There is little space left in the ground for dumping garbage. The neighbouring states will not provide space for this. Who is responsible for the garbage that was dumped due to the plant not functioning properly? asked Chander Mukhi Sharma while alleging that post the withdrawal of the showcause notice on December 28 the authorities have taken no action.
Meanwhile,Sharma observed that the DPR had been prepared by the company after checking the garbage in terms of quality and quantity so the discrepancies should not have been present.
The sub-committee is likely to present its report on the issue in the MC House this month.
