After a gap of six years, eminent artist and Padma Shri winner Badri Narayan returns with an exhibition of his works. On display at The Viewing Room,a gallery located in Mumbai’s Colaba Causeway, will be a range of paper works done from 2006 to 2011. A rare 1971 piece titled,The Family, will also be on display. Bangalore-based Narayan has held over 50 solo shows since 1954 and has worked on various mediums including printmaking in wood cuts, ceramic tiles, engravings and mosaic. The 82-year-old is a keen student of Indian philosophy and Sanskrit, and his paintings often take the form of fables and parables,as seen in works such as Magicians and Lady & Winged Horses. However, their simplicity is deceptive: they rarely yield up their meanings easily. The month-long exhibition begins on April 19.
