Pracheen Kala Kendra organised its 137th Baithak Programme featuring tabla solo and kathak dance recital by Kolkata-based Dipak Chakraborty and Rupa Chakraborty respectively. Dipak received his talim in tabla playing under Sri Rashbehari Chakraborty,Sri Ranjit Kumar Barua and Ustad Sabir Khan. A young exponent of Farrukhabad gharana,Dipak has successfully performed in a number of music conferences as soloist as well as accompanist. Dipak started his recital with Peshkar, set to teen taal. Peshkar gradually unfolded, introducing listeners to a wider range of phrases and sounds. He then moved on to present various Qayidas, considered the most important form because of its great potential for elaboration. Rupa then took centre-stage to perform Kathak in its purest form. Rupa started learning the nuances of Kathak when she was only three under Manjula Polley. Beginning with an invocatory piece Ganesh Vandana,Rupa went on to the technical aspects like upaj, thaat, impressive uthaans and other samples of virtuoso footwork set to Dhamar taal. She concluded her recital with Kahe rokat dagar payare Nandlal, which painted the myriad colour of romance and teasing between Radha and Krishna.
