Magnus Carlsen defeats Viswanathan Anand,becomes new world chess champion

Carlsen defeated Anand by a margin of 6.5-3.5 as the 10th game ended in a draw.

Magnus Carlsen of Norway on Friday became the new world chess champion after defeating maestro Viswanathan Anand. Carlsen defeated Anand by a margin of 6.5-3.5 in the World Chess Championship as the 10th game ended in a draw.

With this win over five-times world champion Anand,Carlsen has become the second youngest world chess champion at 22.

The world championship is a 12-game affair over 20 days and the first to reach 6.5 points wins the series. This is Carlsen’s maiden title.
