Maharashtra Police has formed teams to pursue different lines of investigation and track the rapists and murderers of three minor sisters in Bhandara, government told the Lok Sabha today.
In a statement in the House, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said he was "deeply shocked at the despicable, ghastly and brutal manner" in which the three minor girls from the same family were brutally raped and murdered and then thrown into an abandoned well near Murwadi village.
"I am sure that the collective conscience of all the members of the House would be equally revolted to know about the horrendous incident," he said.
Noting that the Centre has received a report from the Maharashtra government, Shinde gave the sequence of events that took place since the three girls -- aged 6, 9 and 11 -- went missing on February 14.
He said the state government has reported that the in-charge of the police station was suspended on February 19 as he did not deal with the complainant promptly and professionally.
"Teams from Maharashtra Police have been formed to pursue different lines of investigation and to track the offenders," the Home Minister said.
