“One can’t do much about the game now, all we can do is analyse,” said a helpless Clifford Chukwama, Sporting Clube de Goa’s coach, after a 0-3 loss to Mahindra United in their 16th round I-League encounter on Saturday. Mahindra United earned three points from the match but the more heartening fact for their coach Derrick Pereira was to see the strikers finding form. Star Yusif Yakubu scored a brace — 31st and 51st minute — on his return after an injury. Mahindra had a strengthened forward line with Andrews Mensah giving Yakubu company while Mohammed Rafi and Steven Dias played as attacking midfielders. Ivorian Douhou Pierre was on duty to provide feed for strikers.
Mensah was the other goalscorer with a 75th minute goal off a Steven Dias free kick.
PTI adds: In Margao, Salgaocar beat Viva Kerala 1-0. A 65th minute goal by Beevan D’Mello guided Salgaocar to their first win. Mohun Bagan and league leaders Dempo Sports Club, however, settled for a goalless draw at the Salt Lake Stadium.
