Wanted turned out to be a sleeper hit...
You know, when we are working on a film we get certain vibes and know if it’s going to do well or not. I knew Wanted was going to be a success. Also, I think it’s been years since we had a proper hero. The whole idea of a hero has changed over the years and I wanted to bring the original one back — a man with a goal, a mission, a man who men and women look up to.
Your next film, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna, is of a completely different genre.
Yes, this film is romantic, humorous and exciting. I’m playing the main in Main Aurr Mrs Khanna. It is about Mrs Khanna who is an extremely beautiful lady, the sort that everyone wants to always see happy. So when she gets upset, you believe her husband is a big idiot. Then you try your best to make her happy. You might try it just as a fling but then that person turns out to be so awesome that you fall in love.
You’re working with a first-time director. Was that a difficult decision?
When I heard the script that Prem Soni wrote, I immediately liked it. It’s written so naturally, there is no over-the-top drama. Since he’s written it himself, we thought it best that he directed it. He’s done television before and we had a great team to support him so I had no doubt at all.
