A day after his predecessor L K Advani called for an “honest introspection and self-critical analysis” of the party’s state of affairs, BJP President Rajnath Singh on Wednesday called for turning every booth into an “invincible fort”. He was speaking at a meeting of party leaders chaired by him at the 14 Pandit Pant Marg party office here.
Sources said the BJP President made it clear that the key to the party’s success lay in strengthening base at every booth. “He asked us to turn every booth into an “abhed qila” (an invincible fort),” said Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan.
As many as 110 participants, including senior leaders, state presidents, persons in charge and organising secretaries from across the country attended the meeting, a day after the two-day national executive of the party ended here. Prominent among Wednesday’s participants were Venkaiah Naidu, Sahib Singh Verma, Vijay Goel, Ram Lal and Bal Apte.
Rajnath Singh said strengthening party’s position at every booth could only be possible if workers brought in more youth and women to the fold. Even at the national executive, he had called for 33 per cent reservation for women in the party set-up.
The party was also asked to organise as many training camps for office-bearers, MLAs and councillors as possible. “The reason why the president asked for such camps is that a large number of our party workers are not familiar with our ideology,” said a senior party leader.
Later in the day, a presentation was also made at the BJP headquarters on Ashoka Road to impart management skills to the office-bearers.
