Make your stand clear: Amarinder tells Team Anna

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh asked the members of Team Anna to spell out whom they were supporting in the upcoming Hisar bypoll elections.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday asked the members of Team Anna to spell out whom they were supporting in the upcoming Hisar bypoll elections. Replying to a question on Anna Hazare urging the people not to vote for Congress in the bypoll,Amarinder asked: Whom are they supporting,the Chautalas or the Bhajan Lals party?

Amarinder,who was in Hoshiarpur to interact with farmers and members of the civil society,told mediapersons: When they ask people not to vote for the Congress,do they want them to vote for the Indian National Lok Dal-led by Om Prakash Chautala and Haryana Janhit Congress founded by late Bhajan Lal,about whom less said the better?

He added: They (Team Anna) have betrayed their agenda and established that they were acting at the behest of someone who is against the Congress. Moreover,they have no moral right or locus standi to ask the people for someone.

Asked about his reaction about reports of Anna Hazare coming to Punjab during elections to support the Akali-BJP alliance,the PCC president said that he hoped that before doing so,Hazare had verified the credentials of the Akali and BJP leaders.

Claiming that Hazares very purpose will get defeated if he supports the Akali-BJP government,which is the most corrupt government in Punjab,Amarinder said: After all,it is the question of Annas own credibility as well if he really wants to continue the crusade against corruption.

Asked if he had suggested to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to retire,Amarinder said that though he had not asked Badal to retire,it was he (Badal) himself who had expressed the same wish. To this,I had advised him to rest and relax in the old age home he had set up in his Badal village, said Amarinder. But Badal will never retire,he says this during election time to gain public sympathy,he added.
