Makers of ‘Gandhi to Hitler’ to sue Anupam Kher
Kher opted out of playing the Nazi dictator in the film,as his fans had appealed to him against playing that role.
It’s common for actors to opt out of or be replaced in films. However,in the case of the upcoming film Gandhi To Hitler, the fine line between publicity and harassments has long since been blurred.
Apparently, the makers of the film Gandhi To Hitler are all set to sue Anupam Kher for breach of contract. The case in question cropped up almost a year back, when Kher opted out of playing the Nazi dictator in the film, citing that his fans have appealed to him against playing that role. However, the film’s producer,Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma,is now suing the actor to the tune of Rs. 2.5 crore for the breach of contract, before the movie opens in cinemas next week.
Nalin Singh, who is co- producing the film, confirms that he paid Rs. 4 lakhs to Kher and that he had signed the contract too. After the production work had started (dates were blocked and costumes were designed),Kher announced at a press conference abroad that he wasn’t doing the film. Surprisingly, the producer claims that Kher didn’t bother to inform them about it. Taken aback by the turn of events,Singh tried reasoning with the actor to re- think his decision. However, things didn’t work out between them.
While on the other hand,Kher feels that the filmmakers are using his name for publicity and therefore they are bringing up this controversy, just during the release of the film.
