He attacked the radical Hindu groups for their alleged role in the Malegaon incident.
“Whenever and wherever terrorism is discussed, it is always linked with the Muslim community. Are the RSS and Bajrang Dal supporters clean? If they were clean then the Malegaon incident would not have happened,” said Bhattacharjee, while delivering his speech during the inauguration of Milan Mela, organised by the West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation.
The fair aims to promote handicrafts of minorities and to act as a platform for welfare schemes and loan facilities to them.
“In Malegaon, a military institute has been set up to train the terrorists. If the Central government compromises with this kind of outfits, then the country will be destroyed soon. The state government would never compromise with any communal power and with terrorism as well,” he added.
The chief minister stressed on the issue of reservation for the minorities in all the satellite townships coming up in the state, including Salt Lake, Rajarhat, Dankuni, Domjur and Baruipur.
“It is found that most of the minorities reside in the dingy alleys, congested houses and slums. I have asked the state Housing Minister Gautam Deb, and the state Municipal Affairs and Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharya to reserve some flats for the minorities in all the state housing projects,” added Bhattacharjee.
“Aligarh University has agreed to set up a campus in the state. I have chosen Murshidabad for the university campus, as 64 per cent of total Muslim population of the state lives in this district. The university has asked for 200 acre land in the district,” said Bhattacharjee.
He claimed that the state government has undertaken action plans for development of minorities in 12 districts, including Murshidabad, Malda and North Dinajpur. “We have made the action plan for the state, as no sub-plan for minorities was included in the 11th Five-Year Plan even after I asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh repeatedly about this,” he added.
