From the contentious Nayachar chemical hub project to state government’s lack of preparedness in controlling flood and CPM cadres unleashing terror against political rivals, the Trinamool leaders are all set to give serious headache to the Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government.
On Sunday, Trinamool chief and now Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee swore to take up the issue of “CPM’s indulgence in post-poll violence” with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“Those who indulge in state-sponsored terrorism have no moral right to rule the state and even though we are not retaliating against these attacks, people may lose their patience and counter such violence,” Mamata said.
She also enlisted the details of her partyworkers death in post-poll violence in different parts of Bengal, including Burdwan, South and North 24 Parganas, Ghoksadanga in Cooch Behar district and Bagnan.
Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee has already raised the issue with Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
She also alleged biased attitude of a few senior police officers in Burdwan district during the elections.
“Even though we are not vindictive towards anybody, we still urge these police officers to work without any political bias.”
Accusing the Left Front government of sitting on a “pot of corruption”, Banerjee said there was a need to investigate into how the CPM is misappropriating money meant for the development of Bengal.
Meanwhile, newly elected Tamluk MP Suvendu Adhikary is planning to hold a public meeting in Nayachar on Saturday to protest against the proposed chemical SEZ in the area.
“I will attend the rally and we will try to convince the people about the environmental hazards associated with the Nayachar chemical SEZ,” said Adhikary. With the CPM claiming that Banerjee will be in a political tightspot over the issue of Nayachar since it has been “cleared” by the Congress-led UPA government of which she is a part now, Adhikary said: “The Union government has not yet given environment clearance to the hub. We are planning a tourism project in Nayachar area,” added Adhikary.
He is also scheduled to meet Left Front ministers on the issue of floods in East and West Midnapore districts, including Nandigram. This will be the first time when a Trinamool MP will meet and raise issues with the state government after the Left was trounced in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
The Trinamool Congress wants to know the steps that the government plans to take for tackling floods in Midnapore during the monsoon.
